About the Collections
At the Saratoga Automobile Museum, we are proud to serve as the caretakers of New York State’s rich automotive and racing heritage. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit institution, our mission is rooted in preserving, celebrating, and sharing the history of cars made in New York and the vibrant racing culture that has shaped the Empire State.
From our earliest days, the Museum has grown into a dynamic center for automotive history. Today, our collection encompasses thousands of artifacts that tell the story of innovation, craftsmanship, and competition. These include historic automobiles, extensive photographic archives, racing apparel and clothing, rare books and magazines, motorsports memorabilia, and countless documents that capture generations of automotive achievement.
Beyond the automobiles themselves, our archives preserve thousands of photographs and printed materials that document drivers, engineers, designers, and enthusiasts who helped shape the state’s automotive legacy. Together, these artifacts create a comprehensive record of New York’s enduring relationship with the automobile.
Collections Management
The Saratoga Automobile Museum is a public 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization governed by a dedicated board of directors and supported by members, donors, and the community. The Museum serves as the steward of a growing collection of rare, historic, and often one-of-a-kind vehicles and artifacts that represent New York’s automotive story.
As part of our mission, we are committed to preserving and interpreting our collection with the highest professional standards. Our team works diligently to conserve vehicles, documents, textiles, and archival materials while making them accessible through exhibitions, educational programming, and community events.
The Museum maintains established policies and procedures for responsible collections management, including thoughtful acquisitions, careful documentation, and transparent deaccession practices. Every addition to the collection is evaluated to ensure it supports our mission to celebrate Cars Made in New York and Racing in New York State.
As we look to the future, we remain dedicated to preserving the past while inspiring new generations of automotive enthusiasts. We thank our supporters for helping us continue to protect and share New York’s remarkable automotive heritage.
