Renowned artist, Chris Osborne will share her award-winning automotive paintings with visitors at the Saratoga Automobile Museum’s new Golub Gallery exhibit; Wheels of Change: Cars and Culture of the 1960’s. Set to open on Saturday, March 30, the exhibit featuring a wide variety of significant vehicles from the iconic decade will run through Sunday, October 27.

Osborne has exhibited widely in galleries, art associations and art festivals throughout the Northeast and New York City. Her automotive related work has been highlighted at a number of major, national car collector events, including the Kruse Auction in Auburn, Indiana, the Louisville Concours d’Elegance, the Hampton Concours d’Elegance, the Glenmoor Gathering of Significant Automobiles, the Las Vegas Concours d’Elegance, the Fairfield County Concours d’Elegance, and the Classic Car Club of America’s annual gathering in Michigan.

Veteran auction professional brings decades of experience to post

Windham, an auction industry veteran, comes to Saratoga Springs with a 35-plus year track record in the automotive and racing worlds, most recently as sales and marketing manager for Auctions America and vice president of the automotive division for Morphy’s Auctions. Windham will manage overall auction operations, with a focus on attracting bidders and consigners for the Sept. 2019 auction.

The Saratoga Automobile Museum is proud to announce Megan A. Hennessey has been hired as the new Director of Special Events. 

Hennessey’s background and diverse experience in event management throughout New York’s Capital Region is anticipated to strengthen and expand all current museum events, in addition to creating new opportunities and experiences for museum members and visitors alike.

“We’re ecstatic to add Megan to the team here at the Saratoga Automobile Museum,” said Carly Connors, executive director. “Her myriad experience working in hospitality and lodging will enhance the event experience for those who look to use the museum for weddings, receptions, events, and so much more. For our museum events, Megan’s insight will help enhance our exhibition openings and annual events.”

After a spirited round of voting, the Hall of Fame committee of the New York State Stock Car Association has elected a long time car owner and a trio of outstanding drivers for induction into the association’s prestigious Hall of Fame.

Saratoga Springs, NY car owner Jerry Rose fielded mounts for a number of high profile drivers, among them Brian Ross, Pete Corey, Eddie Pieniezak and Lou Lazzaro.  Many, such as Ross and Giroux, drove the Rose #93 early on in their careers, learning their trade from the master mechanic and owner who fielded mounts for some 18 drivers over a career that lasted from the late 1960’s through 1985.

Like so many successful owners, Rose started out as a driver but decided that end of the sport wasn’t for him.  Never afraid to go on the road, Rose competed at Trenton, Langhorne, Stafford Springs, Thompson and a host of other speedways.  But his biggest score came on Long Island’s 1/5 mile Islip Speedway, where Lazzaro claimed the Islip 300 in a Pinto fabricated by Rose.

From inquiries received and conversations with “racing people” in the region, interest in the Saratoga Automobile Museum’s Lost Speedways program on Saturday, November 24th appears to be at a record level.

“We’ve had great guests in the past but the addition of Albany-Saratoga Speedway promoter Lyle DeVore, mini-stock king Bob Hackel and DIRT Hall of Fame driver CD Coville to longtime presenters Ken Parrotte and Bill Ladabouche gave us a combination that appeals to everyone,” summed up event organizer Ron Hedger. “Add in the fact that the audience will have the opportunity to ask questions after each segment and you have an outstanding opportunity to get ‘up close and personal’ with all five guests.”

The program, which typically attracts a full house of enthusiasts, will open with Ken Parrotte’s look back at the AAA/USAC champ car races on the famed Syracuse mile. He will be followed by another longtime favorite, Bill Ladabouche, who will recall how crude racing was in northern Vermont in the early days compared to New York. The final presentation before intermission will feature mini-stock king Bob Hackel, talking not about his exploits but those of his father, who was both a racer and a promoter.

Following intermission, Hedger will interview 2017 Northeast Region Promoter of the Year Lyle DeVore, whose accomplishments at Albany-Saratoga have brought him to national prominence. But the topic of the day will be his start in the industry with promoters C.J. Richards and Alex Friesen, who had built an amazing network of speedways and special events when he suffered an untimely demise in a snowmobile accident. The C. D. Coville segment will then top off the outstanding program.
