SCOUTS LOUNGING WITH LAMBORGHINIS AT AUTO MUSEUM SLEEPOVER
January 1, 2006
For Immediate Release
Saratoga Springs, NY
For car aficionados, the dream of having tens of millions of dollars of Supercars in your bedroom is nothing but a dream. For over 100 young women from the Girls Scouts of the Adirondack Council and Hudson Valley Girl Scouts Council, that dream becomes a reality on January 27 and February 3, as they spend the night in a sleepover at the Saratoga Automobile Museum and the ÏSupercars: Expensive, Exotic and FastÓ exhibit. Besides the great cars, the focus will also be on science and practical knowledge.
ThatĖs not to say there wonĖt be any fun involved. Along with testing "cute" foam rubber model cars dubbed "Huggy Buggys" for aerodynamics, the girls will be relaxing with a variety of car movies in the museumĖs theatre, and theyĖll also learn how to change a flat tire, check the air pressure and oil level on the museumĖs 1984 AMC Eagle "Learningmobile" station wagon donated by Barbara Bruno, go on an "Auto Hunt" and gather information on historic cars in the museum galleries.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for the Saratoga Automobile Museum to continue its hands-on educational efforts, especially with the connection to women in science" explained Director of Programs and Events Alan Edstrom. "The Girl Scouts of the Adirondack and Hudson Valley Councils and the Auto Museum have teamed up in this unique setting to inspire these young women to reach further, grow stronger and become smarter. ThereĖs no better way to start them off than with this innovative program."
The mission of the Saratoga Automobile Museum is to display significant cars, trucks, and vehicles that not only represent the automotive heritage of New York State but the entire world of motorized transportation. The Museum is chartered by the Board of Regents of the State of New York Department of Education and in addition to organizing permanent and temporary exhibits, the Museum hosts a variety of workshops, interactive displays, lectures, and outdoor shows.
The Saratoga Automobile Museum is located on the grounds of Saratoga Spa State Park at 110 Avenue of the Pines. For more information, guests can also visit the MuseumĖs website at www.saratogaautomuseum.org or call (518) 587-1935.
