SPRING AUTO SHOW 2006 WELCOMES HUNDREDS OF CARS AND THOUSANDS OF CAR LOVERS!

May 15, 2006

For Immediate Release
Saratoga Springs, NY

Julie Stokes from Saratoga Springs knew that it wasnÌt going to rain on Saturday, May 13th, and organizers of the Saratoga Automobile Museum Spring Auto Show presented by Keeler Motor Car Company had fingers, toes, and eyes crossed that the weather would turn out perfectly while hundreds of cars graced the lawns at the Museum and the Saratoga Performing Arts Center over the weekend. And luckily, the weather was beautiful, because JulieÌs 1954 MGTF won best in Show. ÏI had to convince my husband, Bob, that we should bring our cars out despite the forecastsÓ, Julie quipped to the crowds, Ïand frankly, I think thatÌs itÌs that kind of positive thinking that helped me take home the big prize.Ó

"Car shows and great Saratoga weather go togetherÓ said Alan Edstrom, the Director of Programs and Events, ÏAnd Mother Nature wouldnÌt dare rain on Grand Marshall Jason Gough of WNYT - one of the areaÌs premier forecasters. With good weather guaranteed, Jason and thousands of car aficionados spent the afternoon greeting friends as they strolled the Performing Arts Center grounds and checked out the hundreds of cars on hand.Ó

Besides the great weather, the car show had something for visitors of all ages and interests. And since the 2006 show is dedicated to the Boomers, anyone turning 60 this year was admitted free of charge.

Highlights of the show ranged from Alan RosenblumÌs 1939 Bentley with an elephant hide convertible top, to Western Washington State UniversityÌs car that ran on bio methane. Even the gravity powered Albany Soap Box Derby cars were on hand for their official weigh-in at the Auto Museum.

The day will started with an 8 am coffee and donut session with famed car appraiser Dave Brownell and ended with awards in some two dozen classes plus the Keeler Cup awards, the coveted Best in Show Trophy and the Boomer Trophy for the best car owned by someone turning 60 this year. In between, kids built Revell Model Cars, or watched the Junior Fuel Cell Cars. Even the United States Post Office put their Ïstamp of approvalÓ on the show and created a special cancellation stamp in honor of the day.

The Auto Museum is now featuring the eclectic cars in the exhibit ÏDriving Passion÷ the Jim Taylor CollectionÓ as well as the newly added NASCAR championship winning Budweiser #11 Monte Carlo driven by Darrell Waltrip.
