Bob Veryzer gives a behind the scenes peek at the birth of an iconic American Classic
SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY - In 1957, the iconic design of one of AmericaÌs most beloved cars began when ChevroletÌs Bob Veryzer was chosen to be chief designer of what would become the Corvette Sting Ray. With no direction on the design from his boss William Mitchell other than a fishing story about catching a shark, Veryzer taped a two word motto to the door of the secret studio that read simply, ÏBe BraveÓ. The legendary innovator will be sharing tales about the development of the XP - 84 project (among other stories) on Saturday September 9 at the Saratoga Automobile Museum in Saratoga Springs, New York, as he takes the stage alongside some of the cars that inspired the Sting Ray including the SS Corvette and the 1960 Cunningham Corvette Race Car.
ÏWhen we realized we were going to be displaying the SS Corvette in the exhibit ÎJohn Fitch: An American Racing HeroÌ, we knew that we had to bring Bob Veryzer in to talk about what really happened when the ÏQ-CarÓ (better known as the Sting Ray) was brought into the worldÓ, said Alan Edstrom, Director of Programs and Events at the Saratoga Automobile Museum. ÏIn the Automobile Industry, itÌs the equivalent of having a cross between Leonardo DaVinci and Henry Ford at a meet and greet.Ó
Bob Veryzer will be spinning tales about the design of the Corvette Sting Ray and car design at 2pm on Saturday September 9, 2006 at the Saratoga Automobile Museum in Saratoga Spa State Park. Admission to the Museum is $7.00 for Adults, $5.00 for Seniors and Active Miltary, and $3.50 for children ages 6-16.
