ONE THOUSANDTH MEMBER JOINS SARATOGA AUTOMOBILE MUSEUM

Saratoga Springs, NY

It has been an extremely popular year at the Saratoga Automobile Museum and attendance has grown so much that in just the past year alone, membership has more than doubled from 354 last year members to over 1,000 strong. So, on its fourth anniversary, The Museum not only popped the cork at its birthday bash, but it welcomed its 1,000 member across the finish line Ò and ÷drumroll, please÷that person is Tim Delaney of Mayfield, New York. When told the good news, Mr. Delaney bubbled, ÏI joined the Museum because it has an awesome collection of very fine and distinct automobiles in a unique building, and I like the fact that it opens up the world of cars to everyone from young kids and families to Senior Citizens.Ó

Mary Ann Sekellick, Director of Development at the Museum, explains one of the reasons why people are lining up to join in the fun, ÏOur educational programming has brought thousands of local school children to visit and they have engaged in novel approaches to math, science, history and designÓ, ÏGirl Scouts have earned badges at sleepovers; cub scouts learned how to build the best pinewood derby car ever, BOCES programs have restored cars which have then been sold to make the program self perpetuating, and ÏHuggy BuggiesÓ speed down the ramps in the childrenÌs area of the Museum to the delight of our youngest visitors.Ó

Educational activities are not the only reason the Saratoga Automobile Museum has developed into the Ïhottest ticket in townÓ museum-wise. When asked how the Museum has been able to get such enthusiastic support for such a young museum, Alan Edstrom, Director of Programs and Events put it this way, ÏThe exhibits have run the gamut of Classic Cars to Hot Rods to everything in between. Renowned celebrities like Carroll Shelby visited in what was to become the first of our ÏLiving LegendsÓ series and there has been a car show, lawn event, members lecture or program that has attracted each of our supporters.Ó

The goal now, is how quickly the museum can get the next thousand.

The mission of the Saratoga Automobile Museum is to display significant cars, trucks, and vehicles that not only represent the automotive heritage of New York State but the entire world of motorized transportation. The Museum is chartered by the Board of Regents of the State of New York Department of Education and in addition to organizing permanent and temporary exhibits, the Museum hosts a variety of workshops, interactive displays, lectures, and outdoor shows.

The Saratoga Automobile Museum is located on the grounds of Saratoga Spa State Park at 110 Avenue of the Pines. For more information, guests can also visit the MuseumÌs website at www.saratogaautomuseum.org or call (518) 587-1935.
