2010 Scion Dashboard Design Blast at Saratoga Automobile Museum

Deadline: Postmarked by May 1, 2010
Thanks to a grant from Ed Haleman, Intermediate School Students in the Capital Region will be able to try their hands at automobile interior design by submitting ideas for the ultimate driver’s controls in the “Scion Dashboard Design Blast at Saratoga Automobile Museum” beginning at the end of January 2010 with winners being chosen in May 2010.
The Saratoga Automobile Museum is looking for the best work from Intermediate School Students from
throughout the Capital Region.
The Project
Using the Design Template Sheet, draw a design of your “Dream Dashboard” using the Scion xB as an inspiration.
Write a 100-word essay of why you designed it the way you did.
The Prizes
All ten finalists receive a student membership to the Museum
o First Prize is a trophy, an art design kit and a SCION Gift Pack
o Second Prize is a trophy, an art design kit and a SCION Gift Pack
o Third Prize is a trophy, an art design kit and a SCION Gift Pack
All ten finalists will have their drawings displayed at the Saratoga Automobile Museum through July 22, 2010 as well as being featured on the Museum’s website and in appropriate Museum publicity.
The Rules
Staff and jurors reserve the right to re-categorize entries or create additional categories if necessary.

Eligibility
This competition is open to any student enrolled in 6th, 7th, or 8th Grade Classes or Home Schooled as a 6th, 7th, or 8th Grade equivalent in the following New York Counties: Hamilton, Fulton, Montgomery, Essex, Warren, Saratoga, Washington, Albany, Schoharie, Schenectady, Rensselaer, Columbia or Greene.
There are no entry fees and no purchase necessary to enter the Scion Dashboard Design Blast. No entries will be accepted as postmarked after May 1, 2010. All personal deliveries to the Saratoga Automobile Museum must arrive no later than 5:00pm EST.
Winners will be notified by May 31, 2010.

Call for Entries
Judging Criteria:
Entries may be pre-screened by the Museum staff. A panel of Automotive Engineering Students will
evaluate the entries and select the top ten finalists. A panel of distinguished designers, automobile
enthusiasts and other celebrities will select the three final winners based on the following key criteria:
o Creativity and Fun in both design and concept
o Practicality
o Ease of use
o Safety
o Overall Design
Other criteria that will be considered include:
o Is the solution well-executed?
o Is it functional?
o Does the design show real innovation (in aesthetics, function, or materials)?
o Did the design result from a thorough, thoughtful process?
o Did it represent a meaningful educational experience for the student?
o Was the project well-presented?
o What social, ecological, or cultural benefits does it exhibit (e.g., universal or handicap
accessibility , sustainability, eco-friendliness, efficient/cost-effective material usage, etc.)?

Information you provide on this form may appear on the Saratoga Automobile Museum website
and all of its publications, or other publications, electronic, print or otherwise at the discretion of
the Saratoga Automobile Museum. Credit information may be condensed or edited for space. The
